Salo Angora is a spinning mill, founded in 1992 and located in a small outbuilding in a pretty East-Aure village in Ylöjärvi. Their activity began when its founder Eine Niemi started together with her husband Markku Niemi in manufacturing yarn, such as angora, mohair, silk, hemp, tupasvillasta, alpaca and dog hair... Currently they are mainly focused on spin yarn for wool producers.
here is where the wool is spinned into a yarn. The machines, produced in the 60's , still works
The last step of the yarning process is to make the skeins
Visit to Salo Angora

For filling their machines is easier if the length of the fiber is longer. This machine they comb the wool fibers previous the spinning process
Eine and Markkus also showed us, their old mill where they started their company spinning angora wool. Altought the machines still works (those are from the 40's!), currently this mill is more an museum, than a productive place

Residence program
Eine y Markku gave me some interesting insigth about the materials than they use and also samples for testing. I got very soft carded wool fibers, wool yarned... And "tupasvillasta" (cotton grass), from peat. Peat moss is gathered and carded with wool, and spun into yarn that can be woven or knitted into garments because is absorbent, light and comfortable and is considered to have antiseptic adn antiestatic qualities.
